LEVELS

CIEH safety training courses are set at differing levels to ensure you get the exact training course you require:

  • LEVEL 1
    Aimed at those new to the workplace who require a simple training course in a subject to keep them and those around them safe, when starting work or as part of an induction programme.
    For example, school leavers taking their first job or those with special needs.
  • LEVEL 2
    Safety training for people in the workplace who participate in activities related to the subject area. The qualification equates to the ‘foundation’ or ‘basic’ qualification.
    For example, shop floor employees and front line staff employees in production or services.
  • LEVEL 3
    Aimed at those in the workplace who require safety training courses in activities related to the subject area and who also have a related supervisory role. The qualification equates to the intermediate qualification. For example, team leaders, supervisors and junior managers.

CIEH Level 2
Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace

Designed to ensure that all employees are aware of their own safety and the safety of customers, contractors and the public. This qualification can be tailored to business and individual needs to make the learning experience relevant and fit for purpose.

Anyone in a work environment.

Why is this training important?
Employers are responsible for providing safe and healthy workplace conditions as well as the right systems and methods for safe activities. Nevertheless employees also have a vital part to play in the equation. They need the right knowledge and the right attitude which demands proper training in the basics of health and safety, as well as specific training for individual tasks.

CIEH Level 2
Award in Manual Handling: Principles & Practice

This qualification, aimed at those who carry out manual handling at work, provides essential information about manual handling hazards and their control.
To give you maximum flexibility it can be delivered as a half-day programme for learners who only wish to gain the CIEH Level 2 Award in Principles of Manual Handling. Those who need to learn about practical manual handling techniques should stay on for a further half-day training session and assessment to gain the full CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling – Principles and Practice.

Who needs this qualification?
All employees who have to carry out any manual handling activities at work, including both industrial and office workers.

Why is this training important?
Under the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992, employers are required to take appropriate steps to reduce the risk of injury to employees – this includes suitable training. The CIEH Level 2 Award in Manual Handling – Principles and Practice combines both the theoretical and hands-on elements of the subject and teaches learners techniques to lift, carry, push and pull objects safely within their individual capabilities.

CIEH Level 2
Award in Principles of Risk Assessment

This new qualification is designed to help improve the workplace culture for occupational health and safety by enabling learners to understand the basic principles of risk assessment.

Who needs this qualification?
Anyone in a work environment as it raises learners’ awareness of the concept of risk assessment.

Why is this training important?
This CIEH Level 2 Award Principles in Risk Assessment was created in response to industry requirements for all employees to be risk aware. Although not all employees will be expected to undertake risk assessments themselves, they may be asked to contribute to the process and will be expected to act always to protect their own health and safety and that of others.

Learning outcomes

  • Ability to contribute both to the maintenance of a safe work environment and to the process of formal risk assessment
  • Understand the legal requirements for risk assessment
  • Understand the principles of risk assessment including:
    • Hazards, risks and control measures
    • The five steps of risk assessment
    • The hierarchy of control
    • Risk assessment review and record keeping.

This qualification complements the CIEH Level 2 Award in Health and Safety in the Workplace by introducing candidates to the inherent risks in substances and the controls available.

Who needs this qualification?
Designed for those responsible for the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) at work, as well as employees who use hazardous substances in manufacturing, cleaning, healthcare, transport, utilities and offices.

Why is this training important?
This qualification will prepare employees to contribute to the safer use of hazardous substances in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.

  • Identify the hazards associated with those substances
  • Identify the risks and controls available to deal with the substances
  • Identify what to expect from a COSHH assessment
